About I Run for the Party (IRFTP)

Since its founding race in 2005, I Run for the Party has gathered people by the thousands for each of the four races in the annual IRFTP race series. The race series includes the Cinco de Mayo 5K/10K, Fourth of July Music City 5K/10K, Halloween 5K/10K and the Nashville 1/2 Marathon. With each event offering a marathon style run/walk and full blown block party after each race, IRFTP raises funds and awareness for charities nationwide. Party-runners gather from far and wide to compete for cash prizes and sponsor give-aways, often times wearing costumes matching the theme of each event. With over 6,000 party-runners and counting, I Run for the Party contributes donations to charities like the Cancer Awareness Project, Susan G. Komen, the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee, the Wounded Warrior Project and many more.

You don't have to be a serious runner to enjoy running for the party, although any IRFTP event is bound to be a favorite of marathon runners. First time runners and families with children are regular participants for each event, it's fun for all ages and experience levels. With growing numbers each year, more and more people are putting their running shoes on and taking to the streets of Nashville to join the party-run sensation.

The 2009 Fourth of July Music City 5K/10K presented IRFTP with the opportunity to bring thousands of participants in Nashville together with active duty military men and women in Afghanistan. The event was held as a satellite race in Nashville, TN and forward operating base Salerno, Italy. Hundreds of American soldiers in the 101st Airborne headquartered in Ft. Campbell, KY, joined the fun by organizing their own IRFTP event, uniting soldier and civilian. The experience was nothing short of inspiring for everyone involved and provided a way to raise funds and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit organization dedicated to the lives of our injured veterans.

In 2010, the Fourth of July Music City 5K/10K will once again bring inspiration to soldier and civilian alike by partnering with the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment currently stationed at Camp Taji, Iraq. This Knoxville, TN based unit of men and women from all over the southeast is planning a "shadow race" that will duplicate the event at Camp Taji. The 2010 race will continue to benefit WWP and bring US citizens together with military men and women. We proudly thank our troops for their service and hope that their participation in this event will bring them a little closer to home.
